The Draft Network

● By Jack McKessy
The Detroit Lions were arguably the best team to not make the playoffs last year after falling one Seattle Seahawks loss short of returning to the postseason for the first time since 2016. Head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes have done an excellent job flipping the Lions from a mediocre team in a perpetual rebuild to one that looks very much in line to make a run for the NFC North title in 2023. A division win in 2023 would be Detroit’s first in 30(!!) years—they won what was the NFC Central at the time. Despite how much progress the Lions have made in their rebuild, their roster still needs some tuning up before they can be considered genuine Super Bowl contenders. This offseason is off to a great start for Detroit with all of the free agent moves they’ve made—signing safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, cornerback Cam Sutton and running back David Montgomery, to name a few—but the 2023 NFL Draft will bring a big opportunity to continue building up this roster. With the first wave of free agency done, here’s what this year’s draft might look like for the Lions.
