Thoughts and prayers to anyone who decided to put up a mock draft on Monday morning. Because one of the weirdest off-seasons in NFL history just got weird — again. On Monday afternoon, the New Orleans Saints and the Philadelphia Eagles made this stunner of a trade: The Eagles traded two of their three first-round picks, No. 16 and No. 19 overall, plus the 194th pick in the sixth round to the Saints for New Orleans’ No. 18 pick, their No. 101 pick in the third round, their No. 237 pick in the seventh round, a 2023 first-round pick, and a 2024 second-round pick. What does it all mean? The Eagles, who already had a ton of draft capital from various trades, stay in the ballpark with two first-round picks, and five picks in the top 101. They had three first-round picks and five in the top 100, PLUS a first-rounder next season from a team they don’t estimate to be very good. Not bad for general manager Howie Roseman. It also means that quarterback Jalen Hurts is on the hot seat this season, because if he doesn’t show the improvement the Eagles want to see, it’s easy enough to anticipate Philly taking their two first-round picks and trading up for their quarterback of a future in what looks to be a more dominant draft at the position.
