The Viking Age

● By Dean Jones
A new era dawns for the Minnesota Vikings after the organization decided to remove head coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman on Black Monday after another season without playoff football. Some would argue that this change of the guard has been a long time coming, but whether Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Kevin O’Connell can get this team trending in the right direction is another matter. With little in the way of spare funds to spend in free agency, getting their draft picks right is of paramount importance. The Vikings have plenty of needs and not much wiggle room financially, so the new appointments have a significant amount of work ahead of them in pursuit of making a splash right out of the gate. Minnesota still has a roster loaded with talent. With a few tweaks, there’s nothing to suggest that they cannot get into NFC North contention if Aaron Rodgers leaves the Green Bay Packers.
